Update

I just wanted to let everyone know why I haven't posted in a while: two Saturdays I got married!
I should have posted before the wedding to let everyone know not to expect some posts during our honeymoon, but here is your notification, even though it's a little late.
I will also be taking a hiatus this summer, because the house we will be living in until mid-August does not have internet and I will not be able to upload my photos with any kind of regularity.
When we move to our apartment at school in mid-August, we will have internet again, and posting of daily photos will resume around August 19.

064 | camera review | blush

Yesterday, Keith and I bought a point-and-shoot camera to be used on our honeymoon at Disney World (and beyond, of course). This week my photos of the day will be photos from our new Canon PowerShot SX130 IS, instead of my usual SLR camera, which is a Canon Rebel XTi. These photos will serve as a sort of user review, in case anybody's looking for a new camera.
I will say right off the bat though, we already really love this camera. I love Canon products, so it was kind of an obvious choice. The zoom is excellent, there are a ton of cool techy features, and the quality so far has been great.
One of the coolest features we've found so far is the Smart Shutter Smile Detection setting where you point the camera at someone's face and, without pushing the shutter button, the camera automatically takes a pictures when someone smiles. Very cool.

I was once again without a model for my portrait assignment.
But I don't take myself too seriously.

052 | another self portrait (explanation to follow)

052

I think two self portraits in one month deserve an explanation. For my Photography class, we are working on a Portrait assignment. There was literally nobody to be found to model for me, and my instructor insists that he not be photographed.
The assignment is designed to help us learn more about studio lighting in terms of portrait photography. So for each photo, I used the timer on my camera to take a photo of myself. This took forever. I would make adjustments, click the shutter button, wait ten seconds, take a photo of myself, walk back to the camera, check for needed adjustments, make the adjustments, etc. For over an hour. But it was a very good learning experience.
This photo is an example of side lighting.

One of my Commercial Graphics instructors once told me that the custodians in the Kansas Technology Center where all the graphics classes are held are not allowed to touch the computers, and therefore cannot clean the keyboards.

031 | bounce flash

031
This photo strays a little bit from my usual posts, which have been a little more creative, but I wanted to post it because it shows something I've been learning in class. Today, we learned about bounce flash. Our current assignment focuses on on-camera flash techniques, and for this particular shot, we were assigned to bounce the flash off the white ceiling to create a soft glow in the photo.

029 | back to school

029
Judging by this photo, taken in my Photography class, you might think I'm still in Spring Break mode. Actually, I was just playing with on camera flash.

This beautiful, lovely necklace was a birthday gift from my best friend, Jerica. She knows me so well. Not to mention, it was accompanied by a letter written in pen and ink. And the stationary was hand watercolored by Miss Jer. Oh, she spoils me. Did I mention she sent it from Chicago? I feel a pen pal coming on.

Couldn't resist the texture on this pillow. I also added a vintage-y Photoshop action to set the mood a little bit.

I sure do miss this puppy when I go back to Pittsburg (this "puppy" happens to be turning 11 in April).
